What is PBIS?
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. This is a positive, proactive approach to dealing with behavior. Students are given a clear set of expectations based upon behavioral goals chosen by the staff and administration. The behavioral expectations are taught just like an academic subject. The expectations are modeled for the students and then practiced by the students, which is how musicians and athletes are taught their skills. Students receive positive feedback for positive behaviors. Data is kept and analyzed to make decisions on which student behaviors are improving and which behaviors require re-teaching.
Students are also rewarded for representing good behavior at Lance and being Safe, Respectful, Responsible, and Successful. At the end of every week there is a raffle where we draw 10 names from each grade level. Each of these students can earn a prize from the prize cart, a T-shirt (if selected for it), and possibly a Gift Card (again if selected for it). We are planning on having more incentives throughout the year so stay tuned for more information.
